Charlestown police and community come together for National Night Out

Under sunny skies, the Charlestown Police Department hosted its annual National Night Out on Tuesday, Aug. 3 at the Family Activities Park.

Police Chief Tim Wolff and members of the police department joined with neighbors for a coming together event. A popular hands-on activity included youngsters to drive a mini Charlestown squad car.

A large crowd then gathered to watch and admire a K-9 demonstration led by officers Adam Clark and Alex Billings. Adults and children were drawn to the Southeast Indiana Regional SWAT team’s heavy-duty tactical Bearcat with many heads poking out the roof of the armored vehicle.

The overall theme of the event was the opportunity to interact, ask questions, learn information, and take photos with members of the Charlestown Police Department.

In addition, visitors took advantage of the Family Activities Park, playing miniature golf, and letting loose energy at the playground and splash pad.

Mission BBQ generously donated sandwiches and chips while helping serve members of the community. The City of Charlestown Parks Department and Police Department provided hot dogs, chips, cookies, and drinks.
