Notice of Public Hearing on Proposed Adjustments to Certain Sewer Rates and Charges, 8/2/2021

Property owners, ratepayers, and other interested parties in or served or to be served by the sanitary sewer system of the City of Charlestown, Indiana (“City”) are hereby notified that at the July 8, 2021 meeting of the Common Council for the City (“City Council”), proposed Ordinance No. 2021-OR-15 (“Ordinance”) was introduced, which would adjust certain rates and charges for the City’s sanitary sewer utility in three proposed phases. The City Council will hold a public hearing on Monday, August 2, 2021, at 6:30 p.m. local time at the Charlestown City Hall, 304 Main Cross Street, Charlestown, Indiana, in order to receive public input on the Ordinance. The Ordinance adjusts the rates that apply to all current connections to the sewer system, as well as all property within the current municipal boundaries of the City that may become connected to the City’s sanitary sewer utility. The Ordinance also adopts a surcharge of $0.33 per 1000 gallons of flow with increased Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD), total suspended solids (TSS), oil or grease. If adopted, the sewer rates will be adjusted in the phases as described, with Phase I taking effect immediately, Phase II taking effect in 2022, and Phase III taking effect in 2024.
